Smart Home Solver recommends using both Apple HomeKit, for the Apple Home App and Siri voice commands, and Home Assistant for automation and broad compatibility. Both run locally, meaning they can work without internet. Apple doesn't offer a screen-based device like the Echo Show or Nest Hub, so Smart Home Solver recommends running their dashboards them on a Google Pixel Tablet.
Lighting
Smart Home Solver tests many lighting options. He recommends WiZ light strips for accent lighting and Philips Hue. For dumb lights, he uses Lutron Caséta dimmer switches, and to control smart bulbs, he uses Inovelli reds.
